LIFE REFLECTIONS
Lucretia Louise Collins Francis, 98, was born on February 18, 1918 in Birdsnest, Virginia to Mary L Rankin and Leonard Collins. She was the only child from this union and was blessed with a brother years later.
In January, 1978 she married Langston Delaney Francis in Massapequa, New York. He preceded her in death on December 12, 2011. God blessed them with a combine family of three daughters and two sons. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Shrock (John) of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; Connie White (Hildred) of Atlanta, Georgia; Verline Francis preceded her in death. Her two sons are William Francis (Jean) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Johnathan Harris of Atlanta, Georgia. A brother, Douglas Collins, preceded her in death. She has twelve Grandchildren, twenty Great Grandchildren and five Great Great Grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
Lucretia was a kind compassionate soft spoken person who was devoted to her family, many friends and her beloved Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Oyster Bay, New York. She moved to New York as a young girl and worked for Grumman’s Defense Plant during World War II, as one of the “Rosie the Riveter’s.”
Lucretia had a beautiful alto voice and played the piano, she also loved to sew and crochet. Many friends and family benefited from her skills. Playing bingo, dominos and cards with friends were her favorite recreational activities. She always enjoyed delicious desserts to cap off the evening.
Visitation for Ms. Lucretia will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 19th at CedarVale Funeral Home, with the Funeral starting at 11:00. Burial will follow at CedarVale Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to CedarVale Funeral Home.
